What legal and regulatory issues do I need to take into account?

When deciding whether you are allowed to offer a spot, it's important for you to understand the underlying laws in your city/municipality.

Hosts, spots, and accommodations are subject to the laws and regulations at different levels (e.g., federal, national, city, and local levels), which may influence and constrain the free availability for the short-term rental of places and accommodations to paying guests.

In some regions, it is necessary to have an official permit or license before publicly advertising a spot and receiving guests. There might also be explicit prohibitions that might entail fines or other penalties upon infringement. In the end, as a host, you are responsible for the legal availability of the rental. Therefore, we recommend all hosts inform themselves about the local laws at your municipality or district office.

By accepting Host Terms of Condition and activating a spot, you certify that you will follow local laws and regulations.

Please remember that we only outline legal aspects of your activity as a host in an unbinding manner and do not assume responsibility for a legal review of your case. This FAQ cannot replace an individual legal review in your case.
